How it works

Feeder Rater uses Google Gemini AI to analyze a photo of your bird feeder setup, score it across 10 factors, and tell you exactly which birds you can attract and how to get more of them. You can try one analysis without creating an account.

Step 1

Photograph your setup

Take or upload a photo of your feeder and the surrounding area. Include as much of the setup as possible. Nearby trees, water sources, and ground coverage all factor into the score. Good lighting and a steady shot give the most accurate result.

Works from any phone camera. No special equipment needed.

Step 2

Gemini AI scores 10 factors

Your photo is sent securely to our backend, which passes it to Google Gemini with a structured prompt. Gemini evaluates 10 distinct factors and returns a score for each (out of 10), plus an overall score out of 100.

Feeder Type

Tube, hopper, platform, or suet cage suitability for target species.

Feeder Condition

Structural integrity, damage, and wear that affects usability.

Seed Quality

Mix variety, freshness, and suitability for local birds.

Water Source

Presence, proximity, and apparent freshness of water.

Shelter & Cover

Nearby trees, shrubs, and escape routes for bird safety.

Predator Safety

Baffles, cages, and deterrents against cats and squirrels.

Window Distance

Distance from windows that pose a bird-strike risk.

Number of Feeders

Variety and count of feeding stations in the yard.

Area Cleanliness

Ground debris, old seed, and mold around the feeder area.

Environment

Overall yard appeal: plantings, habitat quality, and setting.

Step 3

Get your results

Every analysis returns three things alongside the score breakdown:

What's working

The specific things your current setup is already doing well, so you know what not to change.

Areas to improve

Ranked list of changes that will have the biggest impact on attracting more species.

Birds you'll attract

The specific bird species most likely to visit your setup based on how it's currently configured.

Your photos stay yours
